Freedom of Information Act

FOIA Requests – Village of Cambria

The Village of Cambria is subject to the provisions of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Individuals seeking to inspect or obtain copies of public records may submit a written FOIA request by mail, email, or in person.

Submit FOIA requests to:

Village of Cambria – Alisa Modglin

302 S. Richart Street

Cambria, IL 62915

Phone: (618) 555-1234

Email: cambria111@gmail.com

The Village will respond to FOIA requests within five (5) business days of receipt, in accordance with state law. If additional time is needed or if the request is denied in whole or in part, the requester will receive a written explanation citing the applicable exemptions under FOIA.

Online Records

Under Public Act 98-1129, the Village is not required to provide copies of records that are already publicly available on its website. If you are unable to reasonably access such records online, you may resubmit your FOIA request and explain why. The Village will then provide the records in compliance with the Act.

Fees for Records

  • The first 50 black-and-white, letter- or legal-sized pages are provided free of charge.
  • Additional black-and-white copies are $0.15 per page.
  • Color copies, oversized documents, or electronic media (such as CDs, flash drives, or DVDs) will be provided at the actual cost of reproduction.

Fee Waivers

Fees may be waived or reduced if the requester provides a written explanation showing that the records are being requested in the public interest and not primarily for personal or commercial benefit.

A request is considered to be in the public interest if the primary purpose is to obtain and share information that benefits the general public—for example, by promoting government transparency, addressing public health or safety concerns, or protecting legal rights.

All fee waiver requests are subject to review and approval in accordance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140/6).
